Farmers' Opportunities

In 2005 Grendon House Farm decided to 'pool' all its machinery with another farming family based about 15 miles away in a village called Hammerwich. 'T W Bailye' operates an all arable unit around the Litchfield area. They also have diversified their business interestes in haulage, stabling and property. More details can be found on their website.

This merger intitally was just for machinery but its has highlighted a great deal of other areas where farm business's can work together. One area is sourcing inputs because buying in larger quantities can mean bigger discounts. This improves the overall profitability of the business.

This agreement has brought a great deal more of skills into one camp as we can provide an Advisory service for all Single Farm Payment and Environmental schemes with an in house Land Agent. We can also provide a Machinery planning service for other farmers wanting to 'pool' machinery along with a 'Whole Farm Planning' service drawing on a combined 160 years worth of experience. Finally we have two BASIS & FACTS qualified agronomists we can call on for up to date advice on crop production.

We feel that being 'totally flexible' is the best approach to farming in todays agricultural climate. We can offer you individually negotiated farm agreements which offer fair returns for the farmers and landowners, whilst ensuring care of the environment.

Every farm is different and each farmer or landowner has their own special circumstances. We can offer a flexible approach to farm and land management. The main benefits of an agreement with us is that we will farm the land efficiently and effectively using modern equipment ensuring optimum returns for the farmer or landowner. We have an incentive to perform since our returns are dependent on the profitability we achieve.

What equipment can we offer you?

We try to only use up to date equipment where ever possible because it means we get excellent machine reliability, which in turn means very little downtime in the busy periods, such as harvest time. We also like to have our main line machines on fixed service contracts or on a straight 'out and out' hire/lease agreement because we know exactly where we are in terms of running costs. If you hire a machine over a long period of time all you have to do is put a driver on it, fuel in it and insure it. All other costs such as servicing and breakdowns are covered in the hire charge. This keeps things simple and allows us to fix our prices. Basically nobody gets any nasty surprises.

We also try to reduce soil compaction where ever possible through the use of tracked machines and big tyres but also a 'in house' controlled traffic system.
